You know your 5-year old plays too much with calculators when..

You find a piece of paper with this scribble:

200 + 300 = 500 << 5

Translation: 200 + 300 = 500, then < represents backspace so 500 backspaced twice gives 5.

Sigh. I think the explanation lies in that we are comparatively strict in restricting electronics – we have no i*, branded kids laptops (though he does occasionally use ours for fun) or suchlike. So, when he found our calculators, they were an electronic CandyLand to him.

Funny how readily kids figure out how to these systems – even without reading proficiency, they figure out Backspace, space and Enter. It’s a text, text, text, text, world.
